Its embassy in Kabul is still open : Iran

Iran’s embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, is still open and operational, according to state media, a day after Tehran praised the US for its “military failure” in Afghanistan as it withdraws its personnel. Iran says its embassy in Kabul is still open
Thousands of Afghans thronged the airport in an attempt to exit the nation after Taliban insurgents captured the capital, causing many countries to remove their embassy workers from Kabul due to security concerns.

Although Shi’ite Muslim Iran has long been an opponent of the hardline Sunni Muslim Taliban in neighboring Afghanistan, its officials have openly met with Taliban commanders in recent years. A meeting of then-Afghan government leaders and a high-level Taliban political committee was held in Tehran in July.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy in Kabul is open and operational. Iran’s general consulate in Herat is also open and operational “Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokeswoman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, was reported by the official news agency IRNA as saying. He didn’t go into detail.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday that the United States’ “military failure” in Afghanistan and its withdrawal of forces provided an opportunity for the country to achieve long-term peace.

According to a top Taliban official, the group’s militants have been commanded to maintain discipline and not enter any diplomatic buildings or tamper with embassy cars.
